A number of South Sudanese refugees at Bidi Bidi camp in neighboring Uganda have complained of food shortages, saying the food provided by organisations is not enough to meet the demands of their families.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, the head of Zone 5 in the camp, James Lado said they have not received food rations for more than a month and this has affected many refugees.

He said several camp managers refused to take part in events marking World Refugee Days last week because they were hungry.

On her part, the deputy head of Yangani camp, Cecilia Abau described the humanitarian situation in the camp as “bad”, appealing to aid agencies to quickly intervene and supply refugees with enough food.

World Vision which has reportedly been running food distributions in the camp could not immediately be reached for comment.

Bidi Bidi currently houses roughly a quarter million South Sudanese who fled civil war in their country.
