South Sudanese recruited as farm workers in East Darfur

Many South Sudanese nationals have reportedly crossed to Sudan’s East Darfur State in search for work opportunities especially in farming.

Al Hadi Burma, omda of the Rizeigat tribe, confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that a large number of South Sudanese citizens are working in agriculture after crossing the border. There are work opportunities in the state especially in agriculture, according to the traditional leader. He said that those who crossed to the state are not refugees.

Burma pointed to cooperation between communities living along the common border between Sudan and South Sudan. “As you know, cattle of the Rizeigate tribe have just left South Sudan recently,” he said.

The tribal leader reiterated their commitment to implement a peace agreement signed with the Dinka Malual tribe of South Sudan in 2013 despite isolated incidents that occurred from the two sides. He also commended historical ties between the two tribes.
