An administrative conference for delegates from South Sudan’s rebel movement, SPLM-IO, is scheduled to begin next week in the Pagak area of Maiwut County.
The area is located near the Ethiopian border town, Gambella. The rebels have made the area their base of operations since the conflict began in December last year.
Officials said delegates are scheduled to discuss the intra-SPLM dialogue that took place in Arusha, Tanzania, and other issues arising from ongoing negotiations in Addis Ababa.
The deputy organizing head Sebit Magok told Radio Tamazuj that those issues include what future system of governance members of the rebellion would agree to support.
They will also discuss the recent Arusha Declaration, determine a name for the party, appoint a chairman and three deputies, as well as a secretary general.
“So the meeting will discuss all those issues and other organizational matters concerning the SPLA-IO movement,” he said.
The meeting is scheduled to take place between November 24 and 25 with participation from SPLM-IO members in South Sudan and across the diaspora, he said.
