South Sudanese president Salva Kiir to visit Khartoum next week

South Sudan’s president Salva Kiir Mayardit is scheduled to travel to Khartoum the capital of Sudan the end of this month. The resident will hold talks with his Sudanese counterpart Omar Al Bashir to discuss normalisation of relations between the two countries.

Makuey Lueth, the South Sudanese Information Minister, said at a symposium at the University of Juba yesterday that Kiir will pay a visit to Khartoum in the next week. Makuey who is also the government spokesperson explained that the visit will focus on bilateral relations between the two countries, besides the issue of Abyei area.

At the time, the African committee of investigation will be Khartoum to investigate the rebel support claims between the two Sudans.

In Khartoum, the Sudanese Defence Minister Gen. Abdel-Rahim Mohamed Hussein held talks on the telephone last Saturday with his South Sudanese counterpart Gen Kuol Manyang Juuk.

"The talks focused on the implementation of agreements signed by the two countries as well as reactivation of all the Joint Security Mechanisms to ensure the security arrangements are implemented," a source revealed.

Meanwhile, the Spokesman of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) Colonel Al Sawarmi Khalid Saad told Sudan News Agency (SUNA) that the two sides have agreed to hold the meetings of the Joint Security Mechanism in Khartoum on next Tuesday, in full coordination with the African mechanisms adopted by Thabo Mbeki.
