South Sudanese man charged for robbery with violence in Kenya

A 23-year-old South Sudanese man was on Tuesday remanded into custody after being charged with robbery with violence in Kiambu County of Kenya, his family said.

A 23-year-old South Sudanese man was on Tuesday remanded into custody after being charged with robbery with violence in Kiambu County of Kenya, his family said.

The family told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that Mr. Guot John Nyang was accused of having a pistol without a license in Kikuyu area of Kiambu County, saying Guot is innocent.

“We came to court and the charges were read out. John is accused of stealing and having a pistol without a license.Guot has been accused falsely and we know it is not true. ” one of the family members said.

In Kenya, a person charged with robbery, is liable to 14 years in prison. However, if the offender was armed with an offensive or dangerous weapon, or is in the company of one or more persons, or if he wounds, strikes, beats, or uses any form of violence before, at, or after the time of robbery, he shall face the death penalty.
