South Sudanese basketball player and international athlete Ater James Majok on Tuesday organized a mini-tournament for Jubek basketball players.
His initiative aims to promote basketball in South Sudan.
Ater, who plays for China’s Golden Stars Shandong, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that his goal is to promote and consolidate the concept of peace among the people of South Sudan.
"We offer this tournament to our community to make them far from what is going on in South Sudan, especially since there are a lot of issues,” Ater said.
“We have made this tournament so that people can get involved in the basketball game and come home happy for at least one week, and move a bit the basketball community, and this will encourage young people to play this game which has many opportunities internationally,” he added.
South Sudan United, Greater Bahr al Ghazal, Greater Upper Nile, and Greater Equatoria teams participated in the tournament. Equatoria team defeated Bahr al Ghazal by 47- 24 points at the Nimratalata Basketball Stadium.
