Hundreds of women on Friday took to the streets in South Sudan's capital Juba to demand an end to the country's civil war and the suffering of people.

Carrying posters that read "Bring peace from Khartoum", women of all ages expressed their anger at the ongoing civil war in the country.

"We, the women of South Sudan, we want to pray so that God can hear our prayers and change the mindsets of our leaders to sign peace agreement," a demonstrator said.

"It is a peaceful procession because there is a lack of freedom to express ourselves. Women continue to face challenges and insecurity especially in the rural areas," Betty Sunday, executive director of Women’s Monthly Forum, told Radio Tamazuj.

The women said they are tired of the ongoing civil war and urged the country’s leadership to bring peace in South Sudan.

Attempts are underway in the Sudanese capital Khartoum to narrow the gaps between South Sudan’s warring parties to sign a peace agreement.
