South Sudan television will be switched off if it fails to migrate to digital by 2020, a government official announced.
“We have found out is that South Sudan is late in terms of digital migration because most of the African countries have migrated,” James Magok Chilim, director for South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation said after returning from a forum on African media held in China.
The official pointed out the government-owned television needs to migrate from analogue to digital with support from the Chinese government.
“We are told to migrate. If we don’t migrate we will be switched off from the broadcast, so our television and our broadcast will be switched off,” Magok said.
He explained that China offered to support many African countries including South Sudan in the area of digital migration.
“The Chinese government which is going to build the studios for us will support us in doing this,” he said.
Magok urged the South Sudanese government to hire a broadcasting company to migrate South Sudan television from analogue to digital broadcasting.
