South Sudan to send delegation to the US for talks

The Government of South Sudan said Tuesday that it will send a delegation to the United States for bilateral talks.

Addressing reporters in Juba, Apuk Ayuel Mayen, Spokesperson in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said Foreign Minister Monday Semaya Kumba is engaging with the United States authorities to engage them in bilateral talks.

“The Honorable Monday Semaya Kumba, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has formally written to his U.S. counterpart, the Honorable Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, reaffirming the strong and enduring bilateral relations between the Republic of South Sudan and the United States of America,” Ayuel said. “The Honorable Minister is planning for an official bilateral visit to the United States to engage in discussions with his U.S. counterpart on matters of mutual interest and cooperation, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic, political, and economic ties with the United States.”

Ayuel lauded the U.S Ambassador to South Sudan Michael J Adler for issuing entry visas to a South Sudanese delegation led by Finance Minister Dr. Marial Ater Dongrin who are scheduled to travel to the U.S to participate in the 2025 annual spring meetings organized by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC and other engagements beneficial to both countries.

“Special thanks to His Excellency Michael J. Adler, United States Ambassador to South Sudan, for his pivotal role in coordinating the issuance of the visas, particularly in light of the existing travel restrictions on South Sudanese nationals, and for his continued efforts in enhancing the already existing cordial bilateral relations between South Sudan and the United States,” Ayuel said.

She assured that the Foreign Ministry remains committed to deepening engagement with the international community and strengthening South Sudan’s diplomatic relations globally.

Relatedly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is closely monitoring the safety and well-being of citizens in Sudan and remains in close contact with the Sudanese authorities to ensure their protection.

Ayuel urged all citizens in Sudan to remain calm and maintain close communication with the embassy in Port Sudan by contacting the embassy officials.
