Ayuel Tawpiny, the leader of South Sudan Students Association in Kenya (SSSAK), said he received threats after an aborted meeting organized by students in Nairobi on May 12.

The students invited South Sudan opposition leaders based in Nairobi to discuss the country’s political unrest.

Tawpiny told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that he has been receiving life threatening calls from unknown people, and called on the government of Kenya to protect him.

The Sudanese student said he was being accused of mobilizing his fellow students against the current government led by President Salva Kiir.

He pointed out that his mission was to work towards fostering peace in South Sudan. Ayuel added that the students were still playing the non-partisan role of uniting the country.

SSSAK enjoys a membership of South Sudanese students who are mainly drawn from colleges and universities in Kenya.
