The South Sudanese government is several months behind in paying bursaries for an education program that it runs in Egypt.
UN Radio Miraya reported last Friday that more than 200 South Sudanese university students in Cairo have been unpaid since April. The students are entitled to 100 US dollars per month for feeding and upkeep.
Director General for Training and External Relations in the Ministry of Education, Benjamin Gabriel, confirms the problem saying that they have contacted the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank to process payments for the months of May, June, July and August.
“The last time we sent money was in April and we are now in a shuttle movement with the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank to get the money and send it as soon as possible,” he said.
