The government of South Sudan has renewed its commitment to claiming ownership of Panthou (Heglig) after withdrawing its troops from the disputed border area last Friday.
In a press conference yesterday in Juba, senior South Sudanese official Barnaba Marial Benjamin said the government’s intention is to provide maps and information to the authorities dealing with ownership of the disputed region.
He said the withdrawal from Heglig does not mean Juba has forfeited Panthou (Heglig) to Sudan, and neither that it was defeated.
