South Sudan is not planning to move its embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Mawien Makol, the foreign affairs spokesperson said on Wednesday, adding that the government’s policy was unchanged.

Makol told Radio Tamazuj today that South Sudan is not among the countries reportedly planning to move its embassy to Jerusalem.

“Our position and African Union on the issue is clear. South Sudan was in favour of a negotiated solution. The government has not decided anything on the issue right now,” he said.

More than 120 countries defied President Donald Trump’s recent decision and voted in favour of a United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for the United States to drop its recent recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

US President Trump had threatened to cut off financial aid to countries that voted in favour. A total of 128 countries backed the resolution, which is non-binding, nine voted against and 35 including South Sudan abstained.
