South Sudan's warring parties including Machar’s SPLM-IO faction are scheduled to hold a consultative meeting in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa in September to discuss the revitalization process of the 2015 peace agreement, a leading civil society activist said.

The Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), Edmund Yakani, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that the recent IGAD High Level Independent Experts meeting in Ethiopia recommended that the warring parties should hold a consultative meeting on the revitalization process.

He pointed out that the East African regional bloc emphasized the importance of an inclusive consultive meeting in September to develop a general view on how to revive the peace process.

Last week, the IGAD South Sudan office convened a two-day meeting which was attended by 22 South Sudanese experts from the academia, civil society organization as well as renowned South Sudanese practitioners.

The meeting was also attended by the chairperson of JMEC Festus Mogae, the Executive Secretary of IGAD and the IGAD Special Envoy for South Sudan. Representatives of the AUC, UN and EU were also present.
