Conditions for more than 1,000 South Sudan households including children at Payuer returnee camps in Renk County in Upper Nile state are reportedly deteriorating in terms of security and health conditions. “There is also a lack of food with no humanitarian organisations operating in the area”.

“The security situation has now become critical in addition to an increase in crime rates, besides the worsening health condition among the children following outbreak of diseases,” a source confirmed.

Large number of returnees attributed the reason to lack of food being provided by some organisations. This is worsened by poor roads connecting the camp with the town that could facilitate provision of help to the suffering families.

They confirmed that 54 returnees have reportedly lost their lives within the camp because of the lack of good medical care.

The families also appealed to the national government in Juba to quickly intervene and transport them to their various destinations in South Sudan.
