Meetings of South Sudanese opposition groups are continuing in Nairobi, a representative of the SPLM-IO faction at the meeting said.

Lam Akol, an influential opposition leader who resigned from Kiir’s government earlier this month had invited all opposition factions to attend a three-day meeting to discuss the ongoing political developments in South Sudan.

Peter Adwok Nyaba, a leading figure in the SPLM-IO faction allied to Riek Machar, told Radio Tamazuj their meeting yesterday was attended by four opposition groups only.

He added that the meeting was attended by representatives of the SPLM-Former Detainees (SPLM-FDs) and the Federal Democratic Party (FDP) as well as the former governor of Western Equatoria State.

“Yesterday it was a preparatory meeting, so about four parties only attended the meeting yesterday “he said.

The opposition official pointed out that the meeting would kick off officially today, saying all delegates would come to present their papers. Adwok noted that the meetings will conclude on 20 August.
