South Sudanese Muslims on Tuesday marked the birthday of Islam's prophet Muhammad [PBUH] by organizing celebrations in the nation's capital Juba.

Prophet Mohamed's birthday is observed by Sunni Muslims on the 12th of Rabi' Al-Awwal, the third month in the Islamic lunar calendar, or on the 17th of the same month by Shiite Muslims.

Speaking in the function in Juba, President Kiir’s adviser on Islamic affairs Sheikh Juma Saeed took the opportunity to speak about tolerance between Muslims and people of other faiths in South Sudan.

He further said South Sudanese Muslims will support the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

“We will work for peace; we will work for development in this country.  Peace is the only option in South Sudan,” he said.

At Munuki grounds, hundreds of Muslims came together to glorify prophet Muhammad.

Majority of South Sudanese follow Christianity or traditional religions but an estimated 6% of the population is Muslim, according to recent researches.
