South Sudan’s president Salva Kiir Mayardit is scheduled to travel to Khartoum the capital of Sudan on Saturday.
The president will hold talks with his Sudanese counterpart Omar Al Bashir to discuss normalisation of relations between the two countries.
The spokesman of Foreign Affairs Ministry Mayuen Makol confirmed the visit, saying it comes after an invitation by the Sudanese President Omer Al Bashir following his recent visit to Juba.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Makol stated the meeting will discuss the bilateral relations between the two countries and how to contribute to the ongoing talks between the warring parties in Addis Ababa.
He predicted that the meeting will touch on the outstanding issues between Sudan and South Sudan. “The issue of the contested region of Abyei is not on the top of the agenda but it will to be discussed also by the two leaders,” said the ambassador.
Kiiir’s visit has nothing to do with rumors of support to the rebels by Khartoum, but it came at the invitation of the Sudanese president, noted the South Sudanese diplomat.
The official also commended the good diplomatic ties between the two Sudans after the signing of the Cooperation Agreement.
