South Sudan’s Ministry of Health on Sunday confirmed three more coronavirus cases.

On Saturday, a 41-year-old South Sudanese male also tested positive for COVID-19.

The four cases confirmed on Saturday and Sunday bring the country’s total number of coronavirus cases to 49.

In a statement, COVID-19 Incident Manager Dr. Angok Gordon said all three cases confirmed on Sunday are South Sudanese residents of Juba aged between 24 and 27 years. He added that the three cases were confirmed among 137 samples tested by the ministry.

According to Dr. Angok, the Ministry of Health is conducting tracing of individuals who had come into contacts with the coronavirus patients.

The ministry is making a fresh appeal to citizens not to violate the government’s restriction on social gatherings, one of the measures put in place to reduce the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The virus is spread when an infected person coughs or sneezes and the droplets land in the mouths and noses of another person.

A person can also get infected with coronavirus by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or their eyes.

The most effective ways to protect yourself and others against COVID-19 are to frequently clean your hands, cover your cough with the bend of elbow or tissue, and maintain a distance of at least 1 meter from people who are coughing or sneezing.
