South Sudan’s acting army chief, Gen. Jok Riak, is being treated at Nairobi Hospital for complications related to stomach discomfort and malaria.
Gen. Jok, who is seen as favourite to succeed late James Ajongo, was flown to Nairobi for emergency medical care and hospitalized on Thursday evening.
The family told Radio Tamazuj this afternoon that doctors conducted tests yesterday and today morning, but the results were negative.
They pointed out that the result of the second medical checkup this afternoon is not yet out.
One of the family members said Gen. Jok was resting, but it remains unclear whether he will be discharged from the hospital later today or not.
South Sudan’s presidential spokesman Ateny Wek Ateny said he had no “information” about Gen. Jok’s health condition in Nairobi.
Army spokesman Lul Ruai Koang did not answer calls seeking comment.
