South Sudan's ambassador to Kuwait dies

Parmena Makuet Mangar Riak, the South Sudanese ambassador to Kuwait, died on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said.

“The ministry regrets to inform that the South Sudanese ambassador to Kuwait has passed away in Kuwait on Tuesday,” Hakim Edward, Foreign Affairs Ministry Spokesperson, told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday.

The spokesperson did not confirm the cause of death but said Ambassador Makuet died due to a health problem. “The ambassador was sick in Kuwait, and unfortunately, he passed away there. He was the founder of our diplomatic mission in Kuwait,” he said.

Ambassador Edward said Makuet's body will be flown back to South Sudan, but arrangements are not yet complete.

Makuet had also served as South Sudan’s ambassador to Egypt and Nigeria.
