South Sudan’s acting army chief Gabriel Jok Riak returned home on Tuesday May 1 after a successful medical trip in Nairobi, Kenya.
His family told Radio Tamazuj that the plane carrying Gen. Jok will touch down at Juba International Airport this afternoon.
The top army general, who is seen as favourite to succeed late James Ajongo, was flown to Nairobi for emergency medical care after he fell sick in Juba last week.
He underwent a series of checks at Nairobi Hospital.
The government, through the army headquarters, confirmed that the acting army chief would arrive shortly in the nation’s capital.
SPLA spokesman Brig. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang said they were waiting for Gen. Riak’s arrival in Juba.
