South Sudan’s government and rebel forces have traded accusations over fresh clashes in Kuek area in northern Upper Nile State on Wednesday.

South Sudan’s government and rebel forces have traded accusations over fresh clashes in Kuek area in northern Upper Nile State on Wednesday.

SPLA-IO Military Spokesman William Gatjiath Deng told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that their positions around Kuek area came under assault by government troops on Wednesday morning.

“There were minor clashes in Kuek, our forces were attacked by the government forces around Kuek, but the fighting stopped. The government forces decided to return to their positions, it was not a serious fighting,” said William.

The rebel spokesman pointed out that there were no casualties reported after the clashes around Kuek area.

For his part, Col. Santo Domic, Deputy Military Spokesman for the SPLA army, confirmed the clashes in the area. Instead, he accused the SPLA-IO forces of attacking their positions in Kuek area.
