South Sudan reports 8 new COVID-19 cases

South Sudan has confirmed 8 additional coronavirus cases, COVID-19 Incident Manager Dr. Richard Laku announced on Monday.

This brings the total number of cases in the country to 2,313.

 In a statement seen by Radio Tamazuj, Dr. Richard said the new cases were drawn from 60 samples tested by the Public Health Laboratory in Juba, bringing total samples tested in the country to 13,040.

Laku disclosed that the cumulative number of recoveries stands at 1,190 while the number of fatalities remains at 46

The health official said that a total of 1,077 contacts that were being traced have been reached and that a total of 4,956 contacts have so far completed their mandatory 14-day follow-up.

He added that there are no critical cases currently at the Dr. John Garang Infectious Diseases Unit.

Dr. Richard urged the public to adhere to guidelines set by the Ministry of Health, key among them social distancing and handwashing with water and soap.
