The Ministry of General Education and Instruction has announced the dates for the Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) and Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) examinations.
The announcement was made during a press conference by the Deputy Minister of General Education and Instruction, Martin Tako Moyi, at the ministry’s headquarters in Juba.
Tako said the CPE examination will start on Monday, November 20th, and end on Friday, November 24th, across the country.
“On behalf of the South Sudan Examination Council and on my own behalf, I take this opportunity to inform parents and all stakeholders that all processes for the 2023 Certificate of Primary Examination have been put in place and the examination administration dates have been fixed. Examinations begin on Monday, November 20th, 2023, and end on Friday, November 24th, 2023,” Tako said.
He mentioned that a total of 69,573 candidates, including 38,575 males and 30,998 females, have duly registered for the examinations in 1,665 schools and 551 centers.
The deputy minister noted that the number of candidates registered for the CPE Examinations this year has increased by 8,731 candidates, equivalent to a 14 percent increment, compared to the candidates registered last year, which was 60,838.
Tako advised security and all stakeholders to ensure that the examinations are conducted fairly and properly.
“I would like to draw special attention to the supervisors, invigilators, security, and the police. The assessment of students and the integrity of the examination process are of great significance to the South Sudanese National Examination Council. You play a central role in helping the council ensure that security is maintained, and the examinations are conducted in a fair and appropriate manner that allows the candidates to sit for the exams in a suitable environment,” Tako said.
For the secondary examination, Tako announced that the Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) examination will start on Monday, December 4th, and end on Thursday, December 14th.
He stated that a total of 44,991 candidates, including 28,289 males and 16,685 females, have registered, including 887 refugees, out of which 616 are males and 267 females. Additionally, 2,103 students registered for the accelerated secondary education program.
Tako mentioned that this year, the examination secretariat recorded an increment in the number of candidates by 9,412, or 21 percent, compared to the 35,459 candidates registered in the 2022 examinations. The number of female candidates also increased by 4,146, or 24.8 percent, compared to the academic year 2022, which recorded a total of 12,537.
He also revealed that the number of refugee candidates increased by 119 students, or 13.5 percent, compared to the 764 students who registered in the 2022 examinations.
