The South Sudan Red Cross Society (SSRCS) has trained volunteers to educate citizens about the dangers of cholera and how to slow the spread of the disease.
SSRCS spokesman Marial Mayom told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that they trained 209 volunteers to teach locals about reducing the outbreak.
He said volunteers visited 5000 houses in Juba last week.
“The team gave health instructions to the citizens and distributed pills for chlorination of water as well as disinfectants,” Mayom said.
Mayom dismissed earlier reports by health authorities that show a decrease of cholera in South Sudan, saying the outbreak is still being reported at Gumba and Sherikat residential areas in Juba.
However, Mayom said deaths due to cholera have considerably reduced.
