An insecurity emergency was announced in Northern Bahr al Ghazal's Aweil North county near the Sudan border following reports that Riek Machar's rebels entered the area.

Aweil North county commissioner Kon Angok Kon confirmed to Radio Tamazuj movement of rebels commanded by Dau Aturjong near Kiir Adems.

He said government troops have deployed to repulse any attack and that families have deserted their farms fearing clashes.

The rebels recently announced capture of areas in Aweil North and West Counties but local authorities dismissed the claims.
