A spokesperson for South Sudan’s armed opposition has accused the government-aligned Maban Defense Forces militia of attacking their positions in Upper Nile state on Friday.

Spokesperson Dickson Gatluak said the Maban Defense Forces attacked SPLA-In Opposition infantry who were moving from Odear to the north.

“MDF came out from the town to ambush our forces on the way and were lying in wait in concealed positions to make surprise attacks on our troops while on the way,” Gatluak said in a press statement.

He said the attackers were repulsed.
