South Sudan’s government said it will implement the peace agreement signed with the opposition in Khartoum over the weekend, according to a statement by the presidency.

This comes during a meeting between President Salva Kiir and his two deputies in Juba today.

According to South Sudan Press Unit, Vice President James Wani said that the presidency met and voiced support for the peace agreement signed on Sunday.

James Wani, according to the statement, described the deal as historic to the People of South Sudan. The statement further said President Kiir will brief all state governors on the peace deal next Wednesday in the capital Juba.

Separately, President Kiir’s planned peace rally on Saturday has been postponed until further notice.
