South Sudan's presidency has hailed the reconciliation of Boma state politicians, Governor Baba Medan and Deputy Defense Minister David Yauyau, describing it as a significant achievement in the interest of peace, unity and stability of the area.

“Today, Comrade General David Yauyau, deputy defense minister and governor of Boma state, Baba Medan, have broken the record. They demonstrated rare leadership by honouring their promises to the president to reconcile and put behind them the past and open a new page in the interest of peace, unity and stability of Boma state,” explained Akot Lual Areec, presidential envoy on Murle affairs, who has been facilitating behind the meetings between the two rival leaders since differences surfaced following the removal of Yauyau from his post in December 2015.

Meanwhile, Deputy Defense Minister David Yauyau himself confirmed he officially reconciled with his successor before the Murle community and other members of Boma state on Wednesday in Pibor town.

“We have agreed to work together as a demonstration of our commitment to the promise we made to our people in response to the calls of the president and the leadership of our country and church leaders,” he said.

“So today we came together and we agreed that there will be no group of David Yauyau, no group of Baba Medan. There is only Murle community and this is what we have agreed to do from now onward,” explained Yauyau in response to a question asking what they have agreed after holding more than one hour-long meeting in which both leaders spoke.
