South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has moved the head of the presidential guard unit Major General Akok Noon Akok to director general of customs services.

According to a broadcast by state-run South Sudan Television, Akok replaces Gen Mikaya Modi Lubajo, who was removed from customs services nearly one month ago.

Akok is one of Kiir’s longest serving military officers who has stayed with him for more than three decades. He has no prior experience in customs.

In another order, Kiir relieved Achier Deng Akol, head of presidential medical unit, and replaced him with Andrew Akoon Akech, who is South Sudan’s ambassador France. However, there was no order read removing Akoon from the foreign service.
