South Sudan prepared to withdraw troops from Abyei

On Saturday South Sudan said it is prepared to withdraw its troops from the disputed border area of Abyei, at the request of the African Union.

Senior South Sudan official Barnaba Marial Benjamin said the interior ministry will allow the withdrawal of the police force provided South Sudanese citizens are protected.

Earlier this month the AU demanded the immediate withdrawal of 300 Sudanese soldiers and 700 South Sudanese from the Abyei area.
