South Sudan police admit to huge theft of staff salaries

The national police service in South Sudan has announced that 300,000 South Sudanese pounds for the salaries of staff of the Department of Training were stolen by unknown robbers at the Buluk Training Center last night.

Police Service Spokesperson Col. James Monday Enocka said 15 police personnel working in the administration were arrested on Friday afternoon as part of investigations.

“South Sudan Police would like to make clarification about the theft which took place this morning at around 2:00 a.m. in the General Administration Headquarters at Buluk, resulting in 300,000 pounds missing,” Enocka said.

He said the accounting officer had confirmed that all the doors and windows were perfectly locked, before the break-in. When the door was later opened it was discovered that the window was opened using a tool and one of the boxes containing money was cut using an iron saw, he explained.

Enocka explained that the incident happened in the middle of the night. He said the thieves carried away 300,000 SSP, the whole amount of the salaries for the month of September for the Police personnel working in the General Administration. He added that the other salaries for other departments of the ten states were not affected.

Enocka call on all the police personnel to be calm and prepare to receive their salaries whenever they are ready.

Separately, Radio Tamazuj is informed that CID investigators this morning were at the scene of the crime at the Directorate of Training and Administration Center in Buluk.
