South Sudan peace partners say ready to form transitional govt

Parties to the South Sudanese peace agreement have reiterated their commitment to form a transitional government anytime soon, in spite of having missed repeated deadlines to do so.

South Sudan's Minister of Information and Broadcasting Michael Makuei told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that arrangements are underway to form a transitional government.

However, he declined to give further details about whether the parties have already named their transitional ministers or not.

Ramadan Hassan Bako, the deputy head of the SPLM-IO advance team in Juba, said they will name their ministers for the transitional government when the SPLM/A-In-Opposition leader Riek Machar arrives in Juba.

The rebel official pointed out that the constitutional amendments committee was supposed to finalize its work yesterday afternoon but it could not due to disagreement on several pending issues including the 28 states.

IGAD's Council of Ministers has urged the parties to proceed with forming the transitional national government before resolving their dispute over the state governments.
