The South Sudan passport issuance has resumed, the Immigration said on Friday.

The Director General of the Civil Registry, Nationality, Passport and Immigration, Maj Gen Simon Majur Pabek, said the production would commence next week.

“We want to inform the public that we have been off production for more than three weeks. The system had technical issues but has now been fixed. The engineers have been on the ground here since the 11th of this month and they managed to restore the system and the printing can now commence,” said Pabek.

The system broke down on August 25 after the German technology provider; Muhlbauer, shut it down due to delays in renewing the license by the government.

Pabek said they had inadequate passport booklets, adding that they would prioritize those with urgent medical referrals, students and the nationals working outside the country.

He urged the government officials to use the special and the official passports due to the lack of a diplomatic passport booklet.

“I would like to notify the public that the passports received were still limited compared to the applicants. We are going to prioritize the issuance to the students, the sick people and the people who have jobs outside the country,” he said.
