Sudan South is participating in the 13th session of the Khartoum International Book Fair which kicked off on 17 October with the participation of over 350 local and foreign publishing houses.

It is the first time for South Sudan to participate since its independence in July 2011. The Khartoum International Book Fair represents one of the biggest cultural and intellectual projects in Sudan.

Agum Riing, Undersecretary at South Sudan’s Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, says his ministry will seek to develop the idea of participating regularly in the book fair.

The South Sudanese official pointed out that several South Sudanese writers couldn’t participate due to the ongoing insecurity in South Sudan.

A book authored by Dr. John Gai Yoah entitled Hazards of Bulding a Nation and another book entitled Sakakin by journalist Paul Isaac Battal were among the South Sudanese books in the Khartoum book fair.

The international book fair will be closed on 29 October.
