South Sudan’s government opened a new Military Pension Fund Headquarters in Bilpam, outside the capital Juba today, at a ceremony presided by Vice President James Wani Igga.
In remarks on the occasion, Igga said that SPLA officers should be ready to accept to go for pension as the Pension Fund office is established now.
The vice president pointed out that the government has not put people into he pension system since the government was established in 2005, but he said this was not a good system. “There is nothing like that, we must accept it as reality of life as simple as like that.”
“What happens today will gives hope for our veterans because they have waited for many years since we have started our Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005 until today they didn’t received their pensions. Others are on duty need to go for pension,” he said.
“If you are put on pension, please don’t get angry. Some may think that once he/she was put on pension it is because the Commander in Chief or the President doesn’t want me… No, this system exists worldwide even in Uganda, India and America. There is a certain period of age you supposed to work.”
He added, “The reasons delay for your pension was because there was no system of work to record those who are going for pension are very many, and so that there would be no corruption as all the records are computerized.”
