The arrested former governor of Westen Equatoria state Joseph Bangasi Bakosoro remains in captivity of National Security Services (NSS) agents over Christmas with no charges leveled against him so far.

A family member confirmed they still have not been allowed to visit him at the NSS headquarters in Jebel where he is held, or speak to him by phone, after various attempts. No lawyer has been able to meet with him either, the family member said.

Bakosoro was detained on Tuesday by NSS after being summoned the day before. Authorities also prevented him from attending his graduation ceremony in Kampala earlier this year.

Salva Kiir removed Bakosoro from his elected governor’s position in August. Bakosoro was arrested that time, too.
