The King of Morocco, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, on Wednesday started his two-day visit to South Sudan aimed at consolidating bilateral relations and economic ties between the two countries.

Morocco was on Tuesday readmitted to the African Union after more than three decades.

Speaking at the State House on Wednesday evening in the presence of the King of Moroccan and South Sudan President Salva Kiir, the government’s secretary general announced that the two sides signed nine agreements and Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) in various fields on Wednesday.

He pointed out that they signed agreements on construction of the proposed capital city in Ramciel, general cooperation, promotion and protection of investment and avoidance of double taxations.

He further said they also signed MOUs in the areas of agriculture and food security, industrial cooperation, cooperation in the field of mining, cooperation in the field of vocational training and open business opportunities between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Deng Alor, South Sudan’s Foreign Minister, said his county will benefit a lot from Morocco expertise in different areas agreed upon by the two countries.

“Between us and Morocco, there are very important issues, issues of bilateral where we are going to cooperate at the regional level and international, we are going to cooperate in the area of agriculture. Morocco has advanced in many areas, better expertise, and we are going to benefit from those areas,” said Alor.

For his part, Amb. Nasser Bourita, Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, said the visit of His Majesty, the King of Morocco will open a new chapter in bilateral relations with Africa and South Sudan in particular.

 “It is very important visit, it is a very historical visit that will open a new chance in bilateral relations through these new agreements and full discussions between His Majesty and His  Excellency President of South Sudan,” said Nasser.
