South Sudan lifts Covid-19 partial lockdown

South Sudan National Taskforce on Covid-19 has lifted the Covid-19 partial lockdown after more than a month.

South Sudan National Taskforce on Covid-19 has lifted the Covid-19 partial lockdown after more than a month.

The Taskforce on Covid-19 imposed a three-week partial lockdown last year on December 21st due to a surge in Covid-19 cases.

The national ministry of health now says the covid-19 resurgence has dropped across the country in the past weeks.

In a telephone interview on Thursday, Dr. Victoria Anib, South Sudan’s Undersecretary at the ministry of health confirmed the lifting.

“The cases have dropped significantly compared to December’s upsurge. So based on the criteria from the World Health Organization (WHO), we are no longer in resurgence, and that is why we decided to lift the partial lockdown. However, we still advise the general public to adhere to the precautionary measures,” MOH Undersecretary Victora Anib stated.

Anib says the lockdown was lifted yesterday (Wednesday) in the national taskforce meeting.

As of Wednesday, South Sudan confirmed eight Covid-19 cases.

Last year, South Sudan National Taskforce on Covid-19 imposed a three-weeks partial lockdown that started from December 21st to January 10th, 2022.
