South Sudan legal counsels undergo four weeks training on legal practices

South Sudan government legal counsels have undergone a four weeks training on general orientation to legal practice. The program was organized in partnership with International Development Law Organization.

Speaking on Monday after the launching of the training, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice Jeremiah Swaka Wani said the training focused on three areas of government contracts, taxation laws and arbitration.

“They are here now to focus on these three issues of course together with English language -when you are a lawyer you must to master the language of law,” Swaka said. “There 30 participants from all our regions, Greater Bahrel el Ghazel, Greater Equatoria Greater Upper Nile.”

Swaka further said the program is funded by European Union for 30 months and has trained over 102 legal officers in the ministry of justice.

For his part, Romaldo Bentzenge of International Development Law Organization said despite this training being the last European Union funded training, IDLO will seek for supports for the ministry.

“Inasmuch as we are discussing with the European Union, also with other developmental partners, I have not yet reach a point where I can say this is the end. We will continue to be partner to the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.”
