The head of South Sudan’s human rights commission has been reassigned to another position, leaving the government rights body without any chairman.

Since the start of the civil war in December 2013 the Human Rights Commission released only one brief report on human rights violations committed in the country.

The head of the commission Lawrence Korbandi was appointed President Salva Kiir’s legal advisor on Tuesday. In two decrees read over the state-run television, Korbandi was relieved of his position and appointed as the president’s advisor effective immediately.
