South Sudan holds Olympic Committee founding meeting

Seven athletics federations and associations met in Juba at the founding general assembly meeting of the South Sudan Olympic Committee and elected a new leader, Lt-Gen. Wilson Deng Kuoirot, who will serve as president of the South Sudan National Olympic Committee.

The meeting held 8-9 June was also attended by representatives of the International Olympic Commitee and the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Nadia Arop Dudi. It was held under the theme “Let’s build peace and unity through sport.”

Delegates participated from different sporting groups and associations including athletics, football, basketball, handball, taekwondo, judo and table tennis.

Deng Kuoirot won the election uncontested yesterday.

His deputy will be Juma Stephen Lugga. Andrea Abdella Dimbiti will serve as second vice-president, Tong Chor Malek will serve as secretary-general, and Mohamed el Haj Baballa will be the treasurer.
