South Sudan’s presidency on Wednesday said the Tuesday’s decree removing two state governors was a normal administrative exercise.

South Sudan’s presidency on Wednesday said the Tuesday’s decree removing two state governors was a normal administrative exercise.

President Kiir issued an executive order yesterday sacking Twic State governor Bona Panek Biar and Gogrial State Governor Abraham Gum and replaced them with new officials.

South Sudan’s presidential spokesman, Ateny Wek Ateny, told Radio Tamazuj today that the reshuffle was purely an administrative exercise which is normal in any government. ” the change is normal and there is no any reason,” he said.

However, he said that the presidential decree was issued in response to a request by the people of the two states. Ateny hinted at reinstating the removed officials into the SPLA army.

On 24 December 2015, Kiir decreed the appointment of governors in 28 states.
