South Sudan’s Ministry of Labour, Public Service and Human Resource Management has increased the cost required for foreigners to work in the country.

South Sudan’s Ministry of Labour, Public Service and Human Resource Management has increased the cost required for foreigners to work in the country.

In a letter dated Mach 2, the undersecretary in the labour ministry said the government decided to raise work permit fees for foreigners from $10,000 to up to $1,000 depending on skill level.

The circular explains that professional or business class would pay $10,000 and blue class workers are required to pay $2,000, whereas casual workers would pay $1000.

The letter states that the increase in the fees is in line with the Financial Act of 2016/2017.

The new circular follows the official announcement of an additional increase in the fees charged for application of national identification cards, passport, visas and other documents.
