Abraham Jongroor Deng, a brigadier-general in SPLA Division 8, was killed on Sunday evening in fighting near Bor.

The commander fell into an ambush whilst moving in the rear of the army which was making its advance on Bor between Pariak and Panpandiar.

Bor itself, the capital of Jonglei, has not yet been captured, the army spokesman confirmed to Radio Tamazuj on Monday.

A relative of the slain general as well as the army spokesman himself confirmed the death of Abraham Jongroor Deng.

The spokesman also denied that Lt. Gen. Malual Ayom, one of the army’s deputy chiefs of general staff, was killed as was reported elsewhere.
