South Sudan’s Foreign Ministry has denied reports that there are ghost names found on the payroll of top ambassadors at the ministry.
This comes after the parliamentary committee for economic affairs reported that that there were fake names appointed as diplomats at the foreign ministry. The parliamentary committee confirmed that the ministry employed about 1,065 people, while the approved vacant positions were 628 only.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, Mawien Makol Ariik, spokesman of the foreign ministry, described the report as “unrealistic”, saying the entire staff are real.
Mawien admitted that the ministry failed to implement its plan to downsize the number of diplomats due to lack of money in June. He pointed out that the ministry gave the ambassadors a deadline until December to implement the plan.
