South Sudan football team risks ban after funding gap

Funding for South Sudan’s National Football team to travel to its upcoming African Cup of Nations will not be provided according to reports, placing the team at risk of being banned from its current and next qualifying campaign. 

Funding for South Sudan’s National Football team to travel to its upcoming African Cup of Nations will not be provided according to reports, placing the team at risk of being banned from its current and next qualifying campaign. 

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports sent a letter to the Football Federation saying they can’t provide the funding required to transport the team to Equatorial Guinea for the African Cup of Nations qualifier to be played in Malabo on September 4th, according to reports.

If a team forfits a match it is disqualified from its current and the following qualification, campaign in addition to a substantial fine.

South Sudan was already eliminated from the current round of African Cup of Nations qualifying after losing 3-0 to Mali.
