The South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) yesterday elected a new president after two rounds of voting.
General Augustino Maduot Parek was declared the winner by the Electoral Committee of South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) after it conducted a General Elective Assembly.
Gen. Madout garnered 20 votes out of 37 votes, while the second runner-up, Laul Maluk got eleven 11 votes. Francis Amin, the outgoing president obtained four 4 votes and Shafiq Gordon got two 2 votes. Another candidate, Peter Achuel, was knocked out after receiving no votes in the second round of the election.
The vice presidency was taken by Charles Udwar with 21 Votes. The other contenders; Makur Majok got 9 votes, Venasio Amum 4 votes and Abdulrahman Rajab got 3 votes respectively.
During his victory speech, Gen. Maduot said his team will be transparent and will start mobilization efforts and partnership work with regional and international football associations’ immediately.
“We shall be actively participating with CECAFA, CAF, and FIFA as we support the efforts for the equitable development of football across the globe while abiding by the regulations and rules of the regional, continental, and global governing forces,” Gen. Maduot said. “We shall also work hard with the government at all levels, from the national ministry of youth and state ministries of youth and other concerned institutions. The partnership is critical for the stability and growth of the game and our focus will always be on collaboration and synergy with all stakeholders.”
He pledged that his team shall be inclusive and transparent.
“We shall work as a team and we shall be faithful to our oath in everything we do, and particularly in managing the resources of the association, integrity and fiscal responsibility are important pillars of my manifesto. Adherence to them will be expected from all of us,” Gen. MAdout said.
For his part, Francis Amin, the outgoing SSFA President thanked FIFA and other regional football bodies for making the elections possible and asked them to support the newly elected president.
“I just want to say congratulations to Gen. Agustino Maduot and I want to tell him that I and the outgoing team are ready to support you anywhere and anytime to make sure that the Football Association is in the right place,” Amin said. “I am out of the association but that does not mean that I am a bad man, no. Everything has a time. It is your time to work and it is my time to relax, support you and give you advice.
Wiyual Lam Pouch was elected to represent Malakal and Nasir Local Football Associations in the SSFA Board of Directors.
The elections were observed by FIFA and CAF representatives who verified the arrangements by the Electoral Committee before the election of the SSFA Board of Directors and the executive.
General Augustino Maduot Parek in the past served as the Director-General of Nationality, Passport, and Immigration in the national interior ministry.
