Francis Amin Michael, a renowned businessman and former board member of Atlabara FC, has been elected the new president of the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) in elections conducted on Thursday in Juba.
Amin, who was competing with Lual Maluk Lual and Arop Joh Aguer, secured 22 votes out of 34 votes cast.
The new president of the sport’s governing body in the country succeeds embattled Chabur Goc Alei, who was barred from defending his position for failing to meet eligibility criteria.
Speaking to reporters after winning the election yesterday, Amin thanked those who supported him. He vowed to work hard to develop the sports sector in South Sudan, while promising to work in collaboration with the ministry of youth and sports and other institutions.
The election was witnessed by FIFA, the governing body of international soccer.
